Working Memory Capacity For Faces With Different Levels of Emotional Valence

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract The capacity of visual working memory (VWM) depends on the complexity stimuli being processed. Emotional characteristics increase stimulus and can interfere with competition for cognitive resources. Studies involving emotional information processing are scarce still produce contradicting results. In present study, we investigated VWM faces positive, negative, neutral expressions. A modified change-detection task was used in two experiments, which number valence were manipulated. results showed that has a storage approximately faces, is fewer than identified simpler stimuli. Our reinforce evidence dynamically distribute its resources depending both amount nature

Negative emotional experiences arouse rumination and affect working memory capacity.

Following an emotional experience, individuals are confronted with the persistence of ruminative thoughts that disturb the undertaking of other activities. In the present study, we experimentally tested the idea that experiencing a negative emotion triggers a ruminative process that drains working memory (WM) resources normally devoted to other tasks. Undergraduate participants of high versus l...

An unpleasant emotional state reduces working memory capacity: electrophysiological evidence

Emotional states can guide the actions and decisions we make in our everyday life through their influence on cognitive processes such as working memory (WM). We investigated the long-lasting interference that an unpleasant emotional state had on goal-relevant WM representations from an electrophysiological perspective. Participants performed a change detection task that was preceded by the pres...

Oxytocin attenuates amygdala responses to emotional faces regardless of valence.

BACKGROUND Oxytocin is known to reduce anxiety and stress in social interactions as well as to modulate approach behavior. Recent studies suggest that the amygdala might be the primary neuronal basis for these effects. METHODS In a functional magnetic resonance imaging study using a double-blind, placebo-controlled within-subject design, we measured neural responses to fearful, angry, and hap...
